Key West Hand Print Fabrics

Key West Hand Print Fabrics was founded in 1961. They had a small factory in the keys that produced hand-screened fabric and resortwear.

both via eBay.

Key West Hand Print also produced fabric for Lilly Pulitzer during the brand's Golden Age. They still sell some Lilly-like fabrics, though I don't suppose they're hand-printed in Key West anymore.

"Small Safari" rayon and "Animal Zoo" cotton knit on sale!

Be aware that unlike sailcloth overalls, the current line of Key West Hand Print Fashions is decidedly not a must for Resort 2009.

Hello Maija. The head designer for almost 25 years at Key West Fashion was Suzie Zuzek. According to her daughter, Suzie designed most of the Lilly Pulitzer fabrics Key West produced. She drew the designs, and one of the owners, Peter Pell, did the colorations. Suzie signed her work Zuzek, as that is her maiden name. Her married name is Suzie de Poo. She is now 88 years old, and living in south Florida.

Hi Lizzie! I've seen some of the prints labeled "Zuzek" but hadn't investigated further - Thanks for the info on the designer! BTW, I just added a link to your blog, which I discovered via Holly and really like!

Hi Maija

Great post - I am listing a Key West print dress and am happy to have this as a resource.

Thanks for the link from the motorcycling post by the way. I've added you to my list of blogs.

So nice to "see" you!

I have several pieces of the original Keywest hand print fabric from when I lived in the keys in the 70's; and yes most of it is signed Zuzek. I also have one that is signed Dory and one that is unsigned and just says Keywest hand print fabric inc. I was looking to purchase some more, but can not find any of the original silk screened type. Should I assume that they no longer screen there own fabic? What I see now seems to be woven tropical prints.

Hi Maija, I'm a vintage seller on Etsy and am trying to do some research on some gorgeous "butterfly paisley" key west print yardage that I have found. It is signed by Dory. Did she design during a certain time period? Is there more info out there on these fabrics? I'll keep looking but am interested in hearing what you have to say. Thanks!

They used to sell the Key West line at Parisians. The prints were all very much like Lily. Is there a department store that carries the colorful Key West line? I just bought an Animal Zoo cotton polo at a thrift store and I want more items.

I have 2 dress lengths of suzy suzek hand print Key West fabrics, both about 35 years old. "Suzie's Fancies" is stiff; the other, "Key West II" is softer. Can they be washed and if so, how?
